12 lbs. sugar, 5.5 gal water, 1 pac turbo 48 yeast, dissolve the sugar in boiling water, add to remaining cool water, pitch the yeast when at room temp, let work until the gas stops, let it set to clear or use a clearing agent, distill and theres your chit....

Jimbull, I use 13 lbs. sugar to 5 gallons of water and use black label. It takes longer for black label but the end product is wonderful. Beginner, remember that this is a neutral spirits and is simply Vodka. Buy some essense from Brewhaus and you can make anything you desire. I have used several of these and they are great. Just had a distill party with many friends while making sour mash with homemade bourbon, and scotch 2 different types and of course homemade beer and wine. Good luck and happy distilling!

oh, point of clearity, its not vodka, its pure ethynol alcohol, c2h5oh.... just a minor point....cheers..

Yes Jimbull you are right but it sounds so much better to call it vodka especially to friends they don't know the difference. I have not tried the distillers yeast yet. I have a batch going with the whiskey yeast. I think it will be some time before ready to distill. I used flaked maize, 2 row, and wheat. Smells like whiskey and has a taste of whiskey. I am excited about distilling this in the near future. Jimbull let me know about your yeild and the yeast.

Hey Jimbull 'n freebrew, I have made a few runs from cheap homemade wine and also from a sugar wash, using the 'Pot Distillers Yeast' from 'Brewhaus'. It gave the wine a really funky after taste, sorta bitter, but it made a very high abv which when distilled, lost the bad taste and made some really great brandy!

With all batches I made, I waited several days longer than the package says; to allow the potent yeast to consume ALL the sugar and get the maximum abv! Could be that this is why the wine had a bitter taste,?,, hmmn! Yep, that could be th problem. So anyway, instead of adding back some of that ,yucky wine, juice, I just tossed a coupla hands full of sweet raisins into the 'brandy' and let it set and mellow for a few ,2-4, days. This gave it a really good brandy flavor and coloring that is hard to beat with any commercially made stuff!

The sugar wash worked even better making a really high abv wash that also distilled out to a VERY good neutral spirit. Notice I didn't say 'vodka', but you really wouldnt know the difference, the apperance AND taste is that good! Course I didn't even try to drink that stuff right from th fermenting tank, I just ran it straight through the still and boy! Ummm ummm, good!

I'm thinking of trying some essecense from Brewhaus next time and make some 'Scotch' or something new.

Try it freebrew, I'm betting you will be joining Jimbull, me an a host of others who use this yeast! In any case, may the spirits ,I mean th booze kind of course, be kind to you ,no hangovers an all that!, and you enjoy th fruits of yer labors!

I think we all deserve that, don't you? LOL

Spiritmaker, While I can still think, when you order essences, try the black current schnapps, it is the most delightfull stuff I've had in years, in cluding her, it is so great stuff. The peach brandy, the pepperment schnapps, only for cold nights though, and amerado, its great, just thought I would pas that on to you...jb

Spiritmaker, I have made both of the Ambrosia scotchs that Brewhause offers and they both are absolutely wonderful. I just went to a brew club meeting last night and took the scotch and it was a hit with all. I have a netural wash currently going to make apricot brandy and bourbon 2 types and a host of others, I think in all I have about 13 or 14 essecense to try. Thanks for the info on the Pot Distillers Yeast. I brew wine and beer all the time and I am thinking of making a wine for distilling purposes only. Keep up the work I think we will master this art before we know it. I just heard the other day the legend of moonshine found in the woods by an individual and it had been there so long that 1/2 of the spirits had evaporated and when tried it was just like drinking water. I just smiled and laughed inside. I hope we can master this legend.

Rick: Is the Tequila essence you just sent out new or old recipe? Also ask Gert about a Jagermeister essence please.

If you are referring to the couple of Golden Tequila essences that I had them toss into your last shipment, then yes, they should be the new ones ,ie. the run that we just had done specially,. As for Jagermeister- the Hunter Schnapps is supposed to be our copy for that.

RICK; New tequila seems to have passed the first acceptance test. Users agree it isn't the same as the old new but are not in agreement if it is as good as the original. I think it is. Thanks for taking this up with gert. I'm gonna enter the order for the jager knock off and the tequila to night
