Hi Bod, Some are made with 3/4" pipe and work ok but I've heard some people say it is a little tight and must be perfectly level to keep from touching the sides, so I made mine out of 1" pipe. Hope this helps.... Captinjack

How tall is the 1" tubing?

The tubing is 12 1/2" with the end cap and I soldered a 1 1/4" long piece of tubing onto the bottom of the cap to go in the stand.
