"Just getting started. Have taken a couple of classes at HomeBrewParty in San Antonio and am gathering ""my stuff"". I just joined the SA Cerveceros brew club and am going to the first meeting on the 27th.

Looking and learning right now. Lots of questions.

It is interesting that, when I talk to someone about brewing beer, making wine, or setting up a still, they always say - "" My ____________ used to do that when I was a kid and I always wanted to learn. Let me know how it turns out.""
So far, I have been gifted a refrigerator, an 8' SS table, a 55 cup SS coffee urn, 24 wine bottles, 60 beer bottles, a clock with thermometer, and about 20' of 3/8 SS tubing from friends that tell me that I am going to need them to get started. Another friend is getting me a couple of kegs, cause she remembers her father bitching about bottling beer.

Any help, tips, tricks of the trade, and information is going to be appreciated."

Welcome to the forum grunt69, lots of info here to read. Any questions you have just ask.

I'm not sure what you will need 20' of SS tubeing for as it's very hard to bend without it kinking. But the rest will come in handy.

Apparently the 3/8ths SS tubing is to run water up to the condensing still head. I am still researching the data.

Most folks around here use vinyl tubeing for the cooling water.
What type of still are you going to be useing?

planning on a valved reflux still head type of still.. I am planning on using vinyl clear tubing for my still and the counterflow wort chiller. I looked at HD and they had some cheap, but couldn't tell me if it was food grade or not, so I am thinking of going to my Home Brew shop and getting it there. One of the big things is finding the copper tubing and fittings. Monday, I am going to the local plumbing supply shop and enter an indentured servant contract with them.

"Greetings from the great Nor'east province of Texas BigGrin

Some tips on tubing - the clear plastic is not chemically resistant. You need chem resistant for some applications. As Bushy has illuminated, lots of reading, lots of learning. But, it does work with time and a bit of study..

Good luck!"
