"Hello all,
I have just completed my second run with the EE ps2.
Here are the details:
5 gallon of 17% abv corn wash + 1 pint of 110 proof tails.
2 cooling water buckets, one for the total, one for the partial condensers. Used ice bottles to keep the water cool.the cooling with the partial condenser was on a control ball valve.
Keg on propane cooker with adjustment control for flame.
Heated up the wash set the partial cooling control to a minimal trickle of water while adjusting the heat control to minimal flame trying to control the top column temp at 175-180F.
hearts were coming off slower than expected ~ 2 drops / second. It took ~5 hours to collect 1 qt
I was very optimistic, seemed to be running very well & per what I believed to be correctly to produce high % distillate
The first reading was 168 proof. I was a bit disapointed. I ran crap wine to a higher proof than this good corn wash + 1 pint of tails.
I collected ~ 1 quart of good distillate after discarding ~ 75 ml of heads. After the qt, the temperature was creeping up & distillate was slowing down to 1 drop / 2 seconds.
Can someone give me some indication of why my distillate was not higher in ABV than crap wine?
We did make a nice parrot while running last night!
Thanks !
