Well, it's your baby so you ain't gonna be able to tell. your family and friends ain't gonna tell you if it's bad because they ain't gonna want to hurt your feelings. You ain't gonna ask the opinion of a stranger due to fear of the revenuers. So unless you know a fellow hoocher with whom you can swap opinions (more than one would work better), how can you tell if your hooch is worth a damn. Don't say compare it to store bought cause lighten' will strike you down.

fortunately i have a friend at work i kinda told him about what i was doing and have been selling him jars pretty cheap and actually gave away one of them (it was the first run i ever made), i am really new at learning this trade and have made some pretty awefull hooch but i asked myself the same thing. What i have done so far is try it myself and comparing what i think is the best so far and then persuading a friend of mine (or my old lady) to try a sip and watch the reaction. usually i get the sour face followed by a "whoo!" lol the last batch i made i have one quart of pure hearts that i will save for a few friends of mine to try that i think turned out great and gave away the tails so we shall see. but if anybody else has some advice please do tell

First advice is don't advertise to the world your selling it ;-), wont go down well with fello distillers. My friends and family are Kesw honest and will say if its good or crap lol. I mainly do it for me so if I like it thats all that matters.

I'm making corn mash bourbon style etoh. When I take a bottle to a cook out and set it on the table with the rest of the Booz, I watch for who goes back for seconds, and thirds. Almost all the time, the bottle is empty when we head home. That's about the best indication of whether it is any good.

Not cool! This is a big no, no!

Come on, man. This is exactly the kind of crap that gets people in trouble ... and that gives the hobby a bad reputation. Don't sell, don't tell. And for heaven sakes, if your friend is close enough/trustworthy enough that you would tell him, then why are you selling to him in the first place? He should be getting his jars for free."

John B is spot on here, folks. Don't tell, ANY ONE. Don't sell ANY THING. If someone got into trouble under the influence or got ill, you go to jail for ever behind a simple jar... not worth it in my book. Not at all. Maybe not yer buddie, but his wife, his brother/sisiter or parents even.. Or god forbid, some righteous fool who's trying to intervene with a drinker, and decides to get even with their supplier... Simply too tricky to traverse...

Every last story I hear about when someone is interrupted and has legal implications is from a leak within the inner circle of that person. Times change, people change, and who ya thought was as tight as head bolts on a chevy today are tomorrows scrap in a parts drawer. Don't believe me? Think about musicans in bands and just how many super tight groups are now all solo acts or in other bands. I cannot count the people I thought I'd always be tight with I hardly even speak to now - people are simply unpredictable, depending on life's events....

Never risk your future on anything flimsy - These days, even a misdeameanor can keep you from getting (or keeping) a job. As I said elsewhere, for Pete's sake, don't make it easy for them.
