"the ones from home improvement stores??

I don't want to spend a ton of money on supplies yet

want to see if I can develop the gift first

do I need food grade equipment for the fermentation process??

or does it just come down to the clean of the operation??

also can I just buy the top that comes with the bucket and add an airlock to it??

sorry if these are repetitve questions I'm still reading books on the iPAD

I like hearing right from the horses mouth then from books written many years ago that are talking about money is no object top dollar equipment

yes you should use food grade buckets.you can get them from Lowes. says it on side of bucket. drill a hole in the lid and they also have the rubber grommets to put in the hole where you put your air lock

Or the orange ones from Home creepo - 2.50 USD for the bucket and 1.90 something for a lid. - buy EXTRA lids - take my word for it...Drill SLOW when making the grommet hole....that plastic is so soft in the lids it rips easily and you are fubar with that lid. I also added a drain spigot (I got from a beer shop) to help with draining it. I installed that about 5 inches up the side so it was above the grain .

you will also find the lids don't last nearly as long as the buckets, but you can salvage the o ring from dead lids (cracked edges) to further other ones....
