"ok now i didnt bag the corn meal how in the world can i strain that back out ?Confused
its going to take days to drain out with a cheese cloth"

try sparkolloid or another clearing agent. next time when you do a cornmeal try getting the coarse ground that you can get from most bodegas and put cheese cloth over a strainer into your fermenter. the cheese cloth will take care of the coarse but not fine

"If your not in a great big hurry you can use time, by that I mean just leave it alone. If you plan on 10-15 days from start to a settled finish you prolly wont need a settling agent. I never go less than 2 weeks on a wash. I know some say 5-7 days until you can cook but it wont hurt a thing to let it go two weeks and most prolly it will be finished fermenting and settled with a nice compact bed on the bottom of the fermenter. Even if you use a clearing agent I'm pretty sure you still need to give it several days to settle before you transfer to the boiler and still.
Now if you're in a hurry and just gotta get to it and have the clearing agent well that'll work so whichever you choose niether is wrong just different."

Oh one more thing....if you've heard of cold crashing you could do that too and that would also speed up the settling and compaction process. In my experience that works really good too, I used my ferm/chiller to push the temp down to 45-50F for 48 hours and its really settled after that. But thats not a must do...its jsut another way of accomplishing the same thing in a shorter period of time

i am sure this after its done fermenting / pop in the frig a few days

you can also cold crash it by putting a frozen jug in the ferment

i just strained it several times i did loose about 2 gallons from what i started with

I always just siphon off what I can then dump the corn mash into a very large strainer with a couple layers of fine cheesecloth let it sit for a day and it pulls out a good bit of wash from the mash.

I used to pour it into a 3X white cotton tee shirt gather the ends and squeeze out the wash but, would always have small particles in my wash letting gravity do the work works out much better for me now.
