Alli:
My name is Scott Parks. I am a reporter for The Dallas Morning News. I talked to Rick Morris yesterday and asked him if he could put me in touch with a hobbyist moonshiner who might be willing to talk to me for a news story on the legalization effort. He suggested I contact you or John Barleycorn on this forum. I would need someone in the Dallas area. I would prefer someone who is willing to let me use their name, but if that is not acceptable, I could grant anonymity to the person in return for the interview. The basic story is about the fact that home beer and wine brewing is legal but home distilling is NOT. WHY is that?
You can reach me at 214-977-8640 (office phone 10-6 pm M-F) or on my cell 972-639-8455

"Hey John Barleycorn:
My name is Scott Parks. I am a reporter at The Dallas Morning News. I talked to Rick Morris yesterday and asked if he could put me in touch with a hobbyist distiller. He suggested I contact you or Alli on this forum. The story I want to do essentially asks the question: Why are home beer and wine brewing legal and NOT home distilling? In order to bring the story to life, I need to speak with someone who distills at home. I would need to be someone in the Dallas-fort Worth area. And, preferably, it would be someone willing to let me use their name. If that is not possible, given the circumstances, I would be willing to Not use the persons name or identify him/her in any way in my story. If you are willing to help me, I can be reached at 214-977-8640 (office) or 972-639-8455 (cell), or you can email me at sparks
dallasnews.com thanks. P.S. If you are worried about whether I am who I say I am, you can google me and find stories I've written."

I think that there may have been a misunderstanding. I did mention that Alli and John Barleycorn headed up the legalization thread on this forum, but not that they may be open to anything further. You can certainly start a thread to see if anyone is willing to be interviewed for your story, but that should be in the General forum, or possibly Introductions.

I think that private messages would be better-- Don't assume that anyone wants their name put out-- Infringement on anyone's privacy is not something the moderators will tolerate. :) :) :)

Hey all, I can't think of a reason why this is not a great idea. What better way to get the word out than to get good press out via the newspaper. I may just send some info to my local paper and see if they want to do a story. And Scott, If I was not in south eastern Mass. I would be happy to talk to you.

There was not a doubt in my mind that one of the nice folks from the Great State of Texas would do just that. And I will certainly let you know if I get anywhere with the local paper around here.

The first sentence in the above post is the EXACT reason folks don't want to talk to reporters......
