"I remember reading a thread about what to put in the airlock to keep the fermentation emissions down (so wifey can't smell the fermenter)
and I tried something a few days ago that I thought might work. Buuuuut nooooooo.......
I've heard of carbon being added and carbon with the addition of water, then I've also heard of cheap vodka being used, none of these worked for me so I decided to try something along the same lines just to see what I got....I filled my 3 piece bubbler to the fill line with some heads I had left over from a previous run made last week. I thought ahhhhaaaa I got this aroma thing..... I could still smell the ferment and I thought well lets give it some time and see what happens, well in 36 hours it evaporated the likker heads down low enough that it wasn't bubbling anymore and it never really covered the smell. Oh well thats why we keep trying new things, so just a FYI...

you can use...
water
vodka
bourbon
carbon powder
and even the stinky heads from your last run, none seemed to work all that great for me. Now if someone has that best ever product to use please add it so we can all learn and thanks for playing along.RollEyes"

The odor has never bothered me or wifey but if it ever does I am going to use mouthwash in my bubbler. That may work. It may evaporate like the vodka though.

Try this and see if it works. Get a mason jar (I am sure you have a few hanging around) Instead of using the bubble trap, run a hose from your fermentation vessel into the mason jar. Fill the mason jar with mouthwash.... It may come out smelling like minty crap.. but worth a try... right?

Yeah me too, I always use my fermenter/chiller thats a closed cooler but a few days before I decided to make another wash I loaned my ferm/chiller to my brother inlaw, so my plan was to fall back on the ole standby of using my spare bathroom. I just wanted to try to knock down the aroma emiting form the other side of the house but no go.....so thats when the heads idea came up. It's not so bad thats it gonna alert the FEDS or make my company puke it's just the idea of concealment.
I did try the mouthwash idea once by just filling the airlock with it but that did'nt work any better."

I did fill the airlock once with mouthwash but it did'nt do much, now the masonjar/tube idea may be better since it empolys so much more volume. HaHaHa..and yeah minty crap might hide the aroma of fermentation the best. Your company might just think......I guess after he took and big greasy dump he must have brushed his teeth ahhhhhhh....concealment!!!!!! Thanks for the giggle."

The scent doesn't bother us either.. I do ferment in a closed closet in a guest room no one ever goes in so only that room has the wafty sweet feed smell.. (Guess my 4 GSD's are a slight deterrent to house guests....They like that wafty smell)

One of the few benefits of living thru menopause w/yer missus is they like the house cold enough to hang meat for aging. And so I had to find a room that was shut off and a tad warmer than the rest... Outside is "No bueno" this time of year in Texas. That room has the vents closed so it stays about 76-78 versus the 60's in the rest of the dwelling... Gawd, the electric bills this time of year...

I guess if a fella wanted to go "High Tech", you could get a hepa air filter and fashion an airtight interface for the top of the airlock such that all emission would be forced thru the filter...But why? BigGrin
