Im interested in making honey flavored whiskey, and was wondering, if I use honey instead of sugar with the corn would that make a difference, or is the honey added after?

I think you will get more flavor control if you make the whiskey you want and then add the honey to the finished distillate. When honey is added to the ferment very little comes over in the distillate from my expirence.

I saw the honey shine, and plan to try it also. Let me know how it comes out. The reason I was asking about replacing honey for sugar was to get the flavor of the grain

Thanks. What I read was to do like you are suggesting, but it wasnt from a distilling site. You saved me from some disappointment

"I read above -- one recipe calls for 1 gallon of honey to 3 gallons of water (so if we do a 6 gallon wash which is pretty standard) and use 2 GALLONS of honey vs. 10 lbs of sugar how much difference in price would there be??? 10lbs of sugar is like 9$.
How much does 2 gallons of honey cost these days???
I remember making beer once and using honey and I think a gallon of honey was like 50$ at that time, man-o-man 100$ for a likker wash....and almost no or should I say very little careover, hmmmm I dont know, hope ya'll can figger it out and be happy with the end results."

Thats why I asked the question before I laid out the money for the honey. In my area, honey is 7.50 a quart vs sugar at 12 bucks for a 25 lb bag both at wally. I plan to do your suggestion, and add the honey afterward.

I dunno about you guys, but I get my sugar when it's on sale for 40 cents a pound. Just picked up 25 pounds for $9.99 2 days ago. LOVE canning season!
