Hello fellas, new to the forum, and had some questions on cleaning up the pot still for the first run. I've read some people soak the parts in vinegar/water solution over night. And some run the 50/50 solution through it. Any thoughts or ideas which one is better? And how much of a solution to use. I have a 13 gal. milk can boiler with a 3" column to a 32" leibing condenser. Anxious to start. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's a good start. I ran a 50/50 vinegar wash at steam for about an hour agin stainless steel PSII HC. I rinsed really good with BH equip rinse afterwards. Then, I found a really cheap white wine and ran two gallons thru as a sac batch. These were reccomends I've read here and at HD.org. Love them Appalachian mountains, and the little Girl I left behind.... (old song lyrics, but tis home for me)
Welcome !! |

Thanks for the info. Steam cleaning went well and am now ready for the sac run. I think a simple sugar run will do.

When you run the vinegar solution did you run it with the column packed or empty?

I clean brand new copper mesh packing in a citric acid and water solution for 20 mins before a good rinse and it's first use. After a few runs, I clean the mesh again. If it looks overtly black after a run, it get's cleaned The boiler and column gets scrubbed with equipment cleaner and sanitized before and after each run. |

So now that the cleaning run is done it's time to cook, now the fun begins.... They convinced me of this long ago, n'er a run w/o copper mesh now for me.. It really makes a big difference. I pack it around the reflux tubes as well as the the column itself. Scotty listed an excellent supplier for that Mesh..where was that link...Here tis; http://www.domyownpestco...h-p-1463.html?sub_id=229 |
