I was wondering if anyone has ever malted their own corn? The reason I am asking is that I am doing it and while it starting to germinate it has what I would call a sour smell. I wasn't sure if this is normal or not or if it is because the berlap bag might be to damp.

"Yessir, I did it once and it smelled like hog food to me,....in the south we soak corn in water and let sour to bait up hogs, and the time I malted corn it smelled like that and kinda made me nauseous.
I'm pretty sure once you get it sprouted you should start drying it to stop the germination process, it will need to be smashed or ground, and if you have lots left over you will want to dry it really good so as not to sour it anymore. I did it just to say I did but I wasn't that impressed with the end result in my case. But good luck and keep us informed."
