"Hi everybody. Just hoping I could get some advice from ya! I got me one of these lovely stainless steel gadets from brewhaus.... the PSII
Tried distilling some water today under reflux, it got well above temperature for hooch it just never quite got to temperature for the water to come over(any water flow to the column at all caused temperature to crash)... I'm thinking maybe i packed the colum too tight( I did follow the instructions) or the gas burner isnt putting out enough BTUs (although the kettle is boiling away) I was trying to run it on only 1.5 demijohns worth of water. Would that have negatively impacted the performance?
I have exhausted the search engine for answers to no avail, thus I presents ye the wise people with the questions!
Anybody have similar issues with distilling water ? I know most folk around here is makin likker Appreciate any responses!
Thanks!"

I don't think the condenser is made for distilling(( large enough I mean )) water unless you use very cold water to cool it.

Water will generally be distilled in pot still mode. Most of the contaminants in water have a far higher boiling point, so you do not need the degree of separation that reflux will give. If you wish to use reflux you will need more heat input.
