Rick, as per above thread, still need help, 12 hours, did everything you said about insulating. Can the ice bath be too cold?Should I use warmer water? What about the copper mesh rolled up in there, what if I loosen the rolls a bit?

What are you using for a heat source? It sounds like not enough heat input.

an 1100 watt 6 inch electric burner from walmart with the thermostat bypassed and soldered

While I have not personally had experience with these heaters, I have had a couple of customers report problems with them. I can only assume that it is not getting as hot as it should for 1100W.
