Just pour hot water over it in the column and every three or four runs put the roll's in a BOP (big ol pot) and give it a boil and hang it out to dry. It will start to turn dark on the bottom of the rolls but that is ok. I'm not sure how long it will last as I've only done 4 runs with mine. Maybe someone else can answer that as I would like to know my self...

If you soak it in a citric acid solution it will clean it right up. I use 3TBSP per gal.

"Hi Dona, I've been useing the same copper mesh for over a year and it's still in good shape. I take it out of the column after the run and rinse it off with hot water then hang it up to air dry.
Whether the darkening of the copper is detrimental to it's function or not is debateable. Some say the darkening helps with the copper's function of cleaning up sulfides and others say it needs to be cleaned.
The bottom roll will turn dark and look kind of nasty but it does no harm and as said above some say it does a better job in this condition. I rotate the position of my rolls dureing reflux so they are all kind of dark and from my perspective I have'nt seen a noticable difference in the end product whether the copper is cleaned up shiny or not.
BTW I use a 50/50 vinegar and water to clean copper, just let it soak till shiny."

One more thing, if you have any blue corrosion on copper then it must be cleaned off, it is a poison.

Citric Acid works great. You can get quite a few runs before it will need the citric acid soak. The usual back flush of plain water will suffice, |

I have been using my mesh for about 4 months or about 20 runs . I clean it with fresh water when I'm done and hang it on the clothes line to dry. I also add the worst coil of mesh to my kettle when beginning a run. Not only does the copper come out like new, it also takes the place of boiling chips. Never had a bad tasting run, and my mesh is always like new.

+1 on the citric acid.
My packing was all black and funky despite flushing after every run and boiling every few runs. I read that you can make a copper cleaning dip by disolving salt in boiling vinegar. DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR COPPER MESH! Sure it gets

Glad it worked for you too. It is not toxic at all as my wife uses it as a preservative while canning. You can get it from walmart where the canning jars are pretty cheap

I just put it in the dishwasher after each use. I use the sterilize button, and so far, shiny bright copper.

I just rinse it off when I'm cleaning up and then into the dishwasher it goes. Using the same mesh for about 4 years now. It isn't bright shinny copper like when it's new but it isn't supposed to be."
