Man-O-man I love a tomato sandwich with Miricle Whip, salt and pepper.....that's lunch and dinner in the south for sure.

That is my grand daughters Jane and Julie, I have to work very hard to get a hug from them two, but it's worth the effort.
You know that us old people have more patients with kids than younger parents do and the kids take full advantage of us,lol

sure do love me some brandywine sandwich with mayo,i grow bw's every year not a great producer but about the best,a also like some of the blacks.im growing some brandyboys this year,jumprd the gun and lost 10 i had already put out.had them covered put 20 degrees got em.still have about a 100 in the green house have some bw's, bb's, sun gold, black cherry and some big beef and beef steaks.will start some better boys and more brandy boys the first of july for a fall crop.last year the fall crop was great,had to pull up the plants mid november and was eating excellent maters the first week of dec."

It was gumbo.. seven years ago .. Honestly, the asphalt Farm to Market road running in front of the house was softer.

It had 2 tons of cushion sand and 2 tons of gumbo buster compost added (each year) to it for the first 5 years I worked it. Like this trade, I have measuring equipment to check PH and fertility levels and such.

I used the tractor and disced that sand and gumbo buster to about 11-12 inches and just kept working it until I got a semi-smooth loam going, and now each February I just add a ton or two of gumbo buster compost and till it about 6-8" deep. I'll take a close up on the next till so you can see - it does look like black gumbo from afar, but up close you can see it is any thing but..

Scotty- I have oodles more space I could grow, to have chickens and sheep an such, but I simply could not sustain it by myself along with my career... But, should the good lord let me live until retirement, well, hell yes... BigGrin

Rc, I like you have a lot more land than I can even think of working, so I just let those carbohydrate converters use most of it, then in November I put three or four of them in the freezer as protein!
I already have chickens and three hogs with 36 more chicks on the way. I love to break an egg and see a dark orange yoke instead of the pale yellow ones from Wally-World, and you can really taste the difference.
