"How important is it for your water to be at the right temperature if it's going into the worm on a traditional still or if it's going into the condenser on a reflux still and how do you control that? I've seen pot still worms with no inlet or outlet what do you do there?

"The -EXACT- temp is not important at all, remember we want to cool the vapor back into a liquid and that takes cool/cold water to achieve that effect. I always add ice to a cooler and pump my cooling water from there, so in my case the water is very cold not frozen but very cool. I read once that someone used his swimming pool water as a source and I bet that worked pretty well too.

Ive seen pot still worms with just a coiled copper for a worm too and I'm sure if you went slow enough it would work but today we know better. Just make your condenser (which ever kind you use ) cool enough to condense the vapor back to a liquid and you should be fine."

Thanks for the info Heeler, I've seen some worms that only have an outlet for the shine but I've seen others with the same outlet for the shine along with an inlet and outlet. I also saw a post somewhere that said the inlet water should be 54* on a reflux type setupConfused

I use 2.5 gallon left over distilled water jugs that I refill w/tap and freeze them... Then I put them in the water barrel and I have like 55-60f water running to the condenser...

Well since we will never know what type setup the other guy you read about was useing than theres no way we can know why he thought he needed 54F to condense his vapor. But no worries just cool the vapor and nevermind about all the other mishmash that folks come up with....IMHO!"

No doubt man. People make this hobby alot more complicated than it should be. I've never heard of anyone keeping track of the water temps for their condensor unless they were running too hot myself.

No.. i just measure the temp of the EtOH coming out of the condensor so I can get an accurate ABV. Science is about exploration is a personal preference..

I am one of those guys who uses a pool for cooling.(When its not frozen solid like the last couple months). Even in the summer and the water temp gets in the 80's it works fine. So as long as it is knocking down the vapors it's fine.
