"I made a mash and let it sit 9 days and when I cooked it the proof was 130 for the first 12 oz and it went down 5 % every 12 oz is that normal

does anyone have a mash that will make a 180 proof"

it has more to do with your still and how you run it than the mash or wash. run it again after cutting below 40 and should bring the proof up. to get above 180 you need a reflux column to stack the different fractions

"Thats right it's the still tower not the wash really, the wash does matter of course but the still has more direct effect on the final outcome, look at it this way..........if you used half of that very same wash in the still you used then put the other half in a still with a tower that will CONCENTRATE THE DISTILLATE better, (which means leaving more water behind) after your done with each what you would have is....
#1 what you ended up with....130proof (which is not bad hooch it just has more water in it)
#2 a more concentrated etoh which would be higher proof. (more etoh and less water)
But remember most of us cut it down to 120-130 proof to make other likkers and or recipes so what you ended up with is pretty close to what your gonna cut it to anyway.

Think about it and visualize it, it's really that simple."
