I am interested in purchasing the 15gal, gin series still and want to use the 1500w band heater as my primary heat source. I was wondering three things:

1. Would a single band be more useful than a single internal electric heating element?
2. What kind of controller/voltage regulator is most preferred with use of the band heater?
3. What kind of plug does the band heater have?

I think you would need a 1500 w internal element as well as the band heater to run a 15 gal pot or 2 internal elements.Unplug 1 after it gets up to temp then run the other on a 20 amp RSC. I've used this one for years with success

Would you also run two heating elements with an 8 gallon pot? I'm just curious as to what amount of energy is needed for these smaller sized stills.

with an 8 gal pot you would only need 1 as it will get up to temp in 30 to 45 minutes
