Okay, I understand what they are for, but when do you use them ? When fermenting for 3-7 days, do you let it ferment then check? Or do you check it while it is in the process of fermenting? I understand by restricting oxygen, stop the yeast from producing it self, so if I open the bucket lid during the process wouldn't that let extra oxygen In and disrupt the process? If anybody can explain how and when to use them, I would highly appreciate it.

you use the hydrometer right before sealing the lid to ferment, and right after fermentation is done to measure the specific gravity ,both times,. on the brewhaus calculator webpage there is a calculator using those two values to determine you're mash %abv. after distilling ,almost all ethanol and water, the acoholmet can be used to simply determine the %abv of your finished product. hope that helps!!

Yeah, that did help...good looking out! Now, one more question....I have the gold starters kit, basically I'm using the amazing still set-up, when I use the activated carbon that comes with it do I pour the whole bag into the filter unit?
