What's up Robert, when the numbers was put into the calculator it came up with 13. something %. It states on the calculator conversion page 35 cups equal 17.75lbs of sugar which I don't think so. Also if the thermometer is set to 50c the actual temperature reads much higher, but not over 78c is that correct? does the heater have to be laid flat on the bucket floor? And even with that percentage, if you redistill it will you get a higher percentage?

Forget whatever you think you know. Let's keep it simple. First off, forget a week, closer to two weeks. Temp is not to exceed 35 degrees C,9/5 + 32 for F degrees,Yep, 17-18 lbs of sugar in boiling water, mix until dissolved. Then go up to 25 L with tap water and monitor temp to keep around 30 C. Dump in, add turbo yeast, don't use anything else, you need the nutrients to feed the yeast,. Wait, distill, cheat the system you cheat yourself.

the 50 C is for heating in the still, the amazing still. not in the mash. never heat the mash when you are fermenting. that should be kept at or below the temps specified on the yeast. we ,Chemistry and I, were, or at least i was, discussing the amazing still aquarium heater temperature setting/mash thermometer readint temperatures... Chemistry, just to clarify, you were talking about the amazing still temps and not fermenting the mash, correct?

Right, the beginning mash reading was 1090, after fermentation it was 980, then set the thermo heater to 50c and waited three days, took the ethanol out , then used the alchometer to read the percentage and it read 30, so what I'm trying to realize is this is normal percentage or am I doing something wrong?

I have 13 gallons of sugar water fermenting, I used the premium vodka yeast instead of the turbo yeast by mistake, its been fermenting for 2 weeks, looks like its got maybe another week left. I know usually you want it to ferment it quickly and get it in the pot. Is this going to add off flavors or maybe be ok?

Kevin, it depends. If your fermenter liquid has access to oxygen ,in the air, then you can ferment right through the alcohol to vinegar ,acetic acid,. If you believe you can smell 'vinegar', stop and distill.

Thanks, My water locks are wedged in tight! When its done fermenting should I rack it off to a secondary and let it settle out for a few days?
