i was told that some older milk cans are called stainless steal but are acually steal cans with a thin layer of stainless applyed.this explains why the can i have has some minor rust on the outside were the thin layer of stainless has wore off from long use but the inside has no rust because there is no bumping or dings.my question is this true? and is this can a good candadate for a boiler? tom

High quality stainless is not magnetic ,#316, , and the more common type of stainless ,#304, is slightly magnetic , so grab a magnet and do a check .
