Hello forum,

I am no chemist by any means but as far as im finding for a simple sugar mash recipe with yeast follows as:

Fermintation Bucket:
5 pounds of sugar
5 pounds of water
80 Degress temp reach before adding active yeast

Now heres where I have issues:
How much active dry bread yeast per gram should i proof to every 5pound of sugar/water?
--Hodgson Mill Active Dry Yeast 8.75g Packets (Ingrediants: Yeast, Sorbitan Monostearate)

Some places I read say 14Grams to every 5gals. Is it just trial and error coming up with that # or??? If you add to much yeast what is the result visa versa?

Good day, I think that recipe will disappoint you pretty quickly. By that I mean it takes more than sugar, water and yeast to make it happen. I know you didn't find that recipe on this site and I bet it will really struggle to finish without extra stuff to feed the yeast. Now if your contemplating a Turbo well that has the other things in it but is not really to my liking. Do yourself a favor and use a different recipe, there are lots of simple ones to choose from that will most assuredly work better than that one.

Hello, on the amount of yeast to use is 1 to 2 grams per gallon. If using bulk yeast it's roughly a tablespoon per 5 gallons. IMO its better to over pitch than under pitch that way the yeast take right off. If you under pitch the yeast it has to multiply which will cause lag time and possibility time for infection to set in.
Also agree with Heeler, you need to research a better sugar wash. Be safe and happy Stillin.
