I have the Essential Extractor Pro Series II and am having great results in controlling my 1500W band heater with the Drill Master Router Speed Control Dial. It's only $24.99 at Harbor Freight. It has enough variance to dial in the level of heat for both pot and reflux. Just thought I'd mention it as it's one of the lowest cost solutions I've found. Harbor Freight

I timed it once. I don't recall the exact time but I believe it was better than an hour for 6-1/2 gal of wash in the 8 gal kettle. I think something like 80 minutes to get to foreshots. So, it's pretty slow going at first. I'll time the next run and reply back.

tntc,
In pot still mode, it took 70 minutes for the bottom of the column to be too hot to hold your hand on it. By 90 minutes I was turning down the heat and starting to watch the foreshots coming in. So, it takes a little while.
