I made a batch about a mo. ago, is it possible to somehow extract the yeast and make another batch from the same yeast or am I just better off buying new packets? and it's not about being cheap, I think the yeast might have acclimated to what I'm producing. just currious.

I have read that if you add molassas you can reuse the same yeast up to four times. I've never tried it. let me know how it works for you.

mike, i went back and found the actual quote, here it is:

'Turbo Yeast contains minerals and vitamins in addition to yeast. That is why it works so well in a plain sugar wash.
What I do is make a plain sugar wash, pitch with turbo, when finished I rack the wash off the sludge in the bottom leaving about 1 inch of liquid.
Then use that sludge / liquid to make rum with ,molasses and sugar, OR ,brown sugar,
The molasses provides all the extras the yeast needs.
I have made 3 consecutive batches of rum, Total of 4 batches from 1 pack of turbo yeast.
I have tried several types and it works well with everything I have tried
Good luck
PS Don't use turbo for grain washes use whiskey yeast'

Stephen:

I think the guy who wrote that quote only used 5 pounds or so of mollasses and the rest brown sugar up to the OG you want.

I have stayed flat away from corn syrup. I use dry corn sugar, but the way they make corn syrup doesn't sound like something i want to venture into. To find out more about it go to:
http://www.westonaprice.org/motherlinda/cornsyrup.html

and read how it is made, then decide if you want to try and use it in your hooch. If you do go ahead and use it, how about dropping a note here in the forum to let the rest of us know how it turns out.

Cheers,
Elricko
