I am looking for a recipe that uses sugar. I saw this one ,in a 5 gal bucket, 10 lbs sugar, Hot water to fill, and some yeast. Let ferment for 2 weeks covered up. Then cook in still., and was wondering if it would work and if so can someone go into detail about it.

This won't work right with out nutrients for the yeast. You should also have an acid environment. Some people put in some grape juice or malt syrup to make it work. My sugestion is to use the Turbo yeast. It is not that expensive and works well. I have not had any turbo yeast batch go bad.

I have always used, and had good luck with turbo yeasts. I use the alcotec 48. The good thing with this is the simplicity. It already contains all the nutrients, buffers and other things needed, that I know little about. 1 package is added to 21 litres of water. First. fill a bucket with the 21 litres of water at a bit above 104 degrees F. Then mix in 6 kg of sugar. This amount will yeild about 14% raw alcohol in 2 days. If you have more time ,and sugar, then add 8 kg of sugar. Stir to mix and dissolve all the sugar. Then, when the temp is roughly 104 degrees F, add the package of turbo yeast. Stir that for 1 min. Leave to ferment in about 68-90 degrees F., until the fermentation stops. The more sugar, the longer the fermentation time. I use a large plastic fermentation vessel with a standard air lock. The mix is done working, when the airlock stops perking and there is no bubbling in the bucket. I just put my ear to the thing and listen. If it sounds like a glass of soda pop, then let it go a while longer. The only drawback to this is it makes alot of wash. Too much for me. My still only takes about 1/2 of it at a time and i have to run twice. That takes all day and the fun usually wears off after about 6-7 hours. Real simple though, and not nearly as much wait time as 2 weeks. I geuss I could just half the package, but I dont know how well the yeast and nutrients would be mixed and how well the unused portion would keep until I got around to using it. Basically though, the turbo and sugar was the simplest and cheapest for me.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

I use 1/3 of the package of turbo 24 at a time and
it works great. mix 1/3 of the package, 5lbs of sugar and around 1 1/2 gallons of water. add 1 gallon of hot water first mix in 5lbs sugar, then add other 1/2 gallon cold water to cool mix very well. Then add 1/3 package of turbo yeast 24,again mix well.place in airtight container to ferment, with
airlock.Let ferment for 24hours then cook it.Goodluck even though you really dont need any because its really that easy.

"Anon,
If you want a good sugar wash look at wineo's recipe. It's fool proof and good.
