"wineo,
a close friend of mine brought to my attention yer talk of a hybrid set up with a plate or two in it. i was wondering if'n you don't mind, could you give us some more detail into this column and how it works and going about making one. and if possible could you share some photos of this. some of us are always up to trying new things. even if the system we have works well, we don't shut our minds to other designs. we always like different methods. together we can all achieve a better product and possibly with less cook time. we thank you in advance and appreciate your response.

Of my potstill/hybred column. It has no reflux cooling but you can put some scrubbers in the 2 inch part, and get a plate or two. With 1 scrubber it runs 65% average.add more and the % goes up.with 6 scrubbers it averages 80-82%

"OK I have to ask. What is the little thing on the end of the condenser. Not the connector but the little chamber.

Also is the keg connection threaded?"

"Its just a piece of 1inch copper.I built the condencer out of parts I had laying around, and that piece was already put together,so I used it.I dont think it does anything. The column is made with 2 in copper and 1 in copper.
the condencer is made with 1 in copper and 3/4 inch copper and the column is connected with 2 long weld tri clamp connectors, one to the column, one in the keg.Its not threaded, its a bud keg.I insulate the 2 inch part of the column when i run it,and I have a piece of ss scrubber stretched out and inside the condencer. The condencer is removable, and I clean it,and the scrubber after every run.I heat it with propane, and can run a 10 gallon wash in 4 hours.I usually get about 3 gallons of booze off a 10 gallon wash.I cool the condencer with a 30 gallon barrel of water with 2-3 5 gallon ice cubes, and a small pond pump.My collection line{not shown} is a 6 ft piece of 3/8 copper thats bent at the end,so it will fit in a bottle.

"Well the boiler is your first plate, and the column is probably a 1/2 a plate, with no scrubbers in It.Even if i use 3 scrubbers,Im only getting 2 plates. There are no mounted plates in it.A true potstill has no column at all,and will run a lower %.Its pretty well the normal potstill/column hybred setup.
