"I've lurked on the forum for awhile now. I decided to register and ask questions as it's the best way to get started. I ordered the Home distillation hand book and recipe book from Brewhaus. Is the distillation handbook about the best for someone getting started?
We have more fruit each summer than we can get rid of. My interests are to make fruit brandy. Reading the different information I've found it seems a pot still is the better choice for this. My experience in the past has been to buy the minimum to get started in these types of things. After a period of time I realize I've shorted myself. In this case I've decided to buy the Essential Extractor Pro Series II. The information written tells me this still can operate as a pot still as well as a reflux still. What have the owners of this still have to say? Does the instructions sent with the still give an adequate description of how to use it? I also understand I'll need a fermentation tank of sorts and the assorted tools to use it? Is there a list of things I'll need somewhere in either the instructions for the Pro-Series II or either of the books I've ordered? Finally, I read a whole bunch of terms in the posts which relate to the distiller's art. I have no idea what these mean aside from guessing. Is there a list of terms to be found on the forum or will the Distiller's book give me definitions? To end, is there anyone on the list willing to tell me to just chuck the whole idea of making fruit brandies and just buy the damn stuff?

Hello, and welcome to the group. To make those fruit brandies, you will be makeing wines with your fruit to distill. If they turn our real good, you could also bottle some of them as wines. You will enjoy this hobby as much as the pride of haveing your very own hand crafted brandies. Wish i had your abundance of fruit.

I have the still you are looking at, and the High Capacity unit as well. I like the HP as it runs more than twice as fast, but the other does the job very well, just slower.

I would recommend you also purchase their starter kit which has all the things you will need to get started and cheaper than buying individually. No confusion there.

Good luck, you will enjoy this.
