"Im new to this distilling thing. I like the idea of making my own alcohol. I bought a water distiller online from http://www.webeatprices.com/pro...9d44cf4ace5a3cdff762d403. I heard that you have to make modifications to a water distiller to make it distill alcohol. Is that true? If so, what do I need to modify? Or do I just put my fermented mash in the distiller and distill it like water? Im confused as hell!! Someone please have a guide or help. Thanks"

won't work. you need a factory 300 watt element.

"If I recall correctly there were three modifications to the normal water distiller model. 1) heat element reduced from 635watts to 375watts. 2) removable of the chlorine valve. 3) Increased fan capacity. You can search for heat element or go the factory, fans can be acquired from the factory or common industrial suppliers like Grainger. Modification is possible. Thanks If you have the model that has a standard computer type power cord running from main body to fan power supply you can purchase a standard computer cord to power the fan and plug the main unit into a variable transformer. This way you have an easy way to lessen the heater wattage and still have the fan run at full throttle. The Variac Transformer model in link below should work fine for the little water distiller. They also sell a 2KVA model that can be used to control the heat from high output hot plates used on bigger stills. To do this turn heat all the way up on the hotplate and adjust output with the Variac so the thermostat does not cycle and cause unstable conditions in the column. http://www.mpja.com/prodinfo.asp?number=15162+TR"

Where is the chlorine release valve? I bought a water distiller and cant find this valve so i can block/omit it. dont want to omit the wrong thing!

I wonder if they reduced the wattage due to the overheating problems I've read about on other threads. BTW, I've done two runs so far of 8 kilos sugar, Turbo 48 in 25 liters water. Ran my uncleared 4 liters in my EasyStill just six days after starting fermentation. Distillate came out (after running it through the included carbon filter) into my mason jars clean, nearly odorless and strong! I haven't picked up an alcoholometer yet, so I can't quote ABVs. Needless to say . . . I am extremely happy with my ""over-priced electric kettle""  I now have a discreet table-top unit that delivers cheap (~$1.60 USD per 750ml) and very drinkable ethanol that I expect will give me a ROI (return on investment) within the year."

Just buy the Essential extractor High Capacity model on here and use a keg. Cheaper than making the mods to something that may not work. Just my 2 cents!
