"Hello everyone, new to this whole distilling thing. Have a friend who's been making it for a couple years with and ""old feller"" who's been making it for about thirty years. I'd like to get some feedback on the reciepe there using and how we're doing this. Seems to have worked for him for all this time but I'd like to tweak it a little bit, learn a little more. Below is the reciepe and a brief description of how we do it. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
18 gallons well water 40 pounds sugar 1 1/2 gallons cracked corn 1 pack Super Yeast Express
Mixed water, sugar and corn, let set for a while to let sugar disolve. Added yeast and put top on can. Let work for about 7 days, bubbling just about stopped. Time to cook, wasn't there for the begining process, believe my friend strained out the corn then added to stainless kettle. To make this brief, our first run come out 140 proof, second 130, third 120, fourth 110, fifth 100. should have made 8 gallons he said but we only got 5. our fire went out on us between the 4th and 5th gallon, believe thats what caused. I'm thinking we're making corn whiskey, seems logical. I been reading bout all this stuff one can buy to check your mash to see if it is done working, and adding this and that. any thoughts please!!!!!!!!!"
