I have quite a bit of experience with the Essential Extractor II, and recently purchased the high capacity model. For all of you guys out there that have the high capacity model, I am wondering what the diffrence is I will see when making a run with it. My normal take off rate was one-two drops per second with the 2 inch model, and I would guess that with the 3 inch, the take off would be a small steady stream due to the diffrence in size. Also, I am guessing the time would be reduced due to more vaporization in a bigger column going out at a faster rate. My usual time for start up to completion was about 5-6 hours with a 25L amount. I assume the same prinipals are in place as with the 2 inch such as water flow at top, condensor, temps etc. I purchased 3 inch model to save time but still get a good product without rushing! Am I correct in thinking the time would be halved considering everything else stays the same? Will I have to learn a new column all over again? Thanks!

You are going to be very pleasantly surprised. Yes, a nice steady stream. I collect at approx. a gallon/hour after i take of the heads slowly. It can be run with full reflux for a bit at the beginning. The cuts are better and more easily made. Big thing is quality. I consistantly get 95% at that speed, and no longer need to carbon filter. I have swithced to a half sized keg and with the 6"" reducer, and i really do recommend that change for the high capacity. For neutral, i always do stripping runs as fast as it will go and combine several into one spirit run. You made an excellent decision."

Two things I found imperative. First it is almost imperative to use plenty of boiling chips to run at that speed. You column will puke and you will have uneven discharge. ie with uneven boil, you will get surges and even some vapor out of the condensor. I use a qt of rashig rings.
Secondly insulate your column. Thats a lot of surface area to cool and condense vapor on the way up."

Thanks! it is a lot faster &better 25 liters 12 to 14 hour makes 1 gal. good stuff"
