Hi, I am new here. Live in Houston, Texas. I have been trying to find detailed information on building and charring whiskey barrels. I have not made any whiskey yet but I want the whole experiance, including building my own barrels. Anybody have any ideas or any directions to send me in? Thank You in advance for the advice.

Nobody? I am looking to build the 5 gallon and 3 gallon kind. What I am looking for is exact measurements and pictures would be really great.

"From what I understand, cooperage is very much an art form as much as a construction skill. It can take years to learn as an apprentice, from making the slats, to getting the right wood, charring it just right, assembling into a leak proof barrel etc.. I would suggest you buy one. make it wrong, it leaks, and you lose a whole bunch of whatever you put into it.
If you want the experience, maybe try making one that holds a liter of of liquid. Or buy a small one - avialble at many sources, take it apart and reverse engineer it.
