"I have used rolled oats several times. It really is a total pain. If makeing vodka, just do a simple sugar wash. Oats, rolled, whole L(horse feed) or oat berries makes the finest, mildest whiskey of all when run several times pot still mode.
To make vodka out of an oat mash would be like buying some excellent single malt scotch and makeing vodka out of it."

But the yields of the mash is very low 6 to 8% and a lot of work and heat. Then to retain the flavor and quality you would need to pot still it several times. Now, if you are useing a reflux column you should be getting very high proof neutral like everclear. With that you can mascerate for flavors, add glycerine for a bit of mouth feel, add most any kind of flavorings you want. Like limoncello as an example. If this is the case than a sugar wash is just cheap, quick and easy. I love useing grains for whiskeys and such and run in pot or de-tuned still mode."
