Probably already being used - I have started using the heads to fill my airlock. The alcohol is a sanitizer and protects the ferment from contamination.

A good use for heads is to save them along with your tails and when you have enough distill them again. Note I am not talking about foreshots.

Foreshots are good for cleaning. I used my last foreshots to remove the glue from the edge of the speaker cones I was re-foaming. Dries/evaporates quickly.

"Davey,

Foreshots are the very first output when doing a slow controlled run. These have the lowest boilling points so will come out first. Methanol is the biggy. They are more prominent in fruit wines than sugar washes, but it is still best practice to catch the first 50ml as foreshots and save for charcoal lighter or whatever.

Heads= headaches, upset stomach, the never again feeling the next day. Basically, a mixture of lower boiling point stuff, that kinda smells like finger nail polish and a really off taste, and lots of ethanol also, which is why you save it to the feints collection for later distillation. On the other hand this is where much of the flavor comes from for whiskeys and others. A small portion is wanted, thus a pot still which won't discriminate them all out, but will, the most vile.

This is one reason many do home distilling. We can seperate out a lot of offs, that the commercial clan can't afford to without a huge price tag.

However, remember, wine and beer have all those elements in them. Won't hurt you in moderate amounts, but too much........Ouch!"
