"Do I need to be concerned about near pure alcohol leaching chemicals from the seal under the lid of a mason jar?
Thanks in advance.

I've seen acidic foods eat on those lids so I'm not sure I'd trust it. I have seen plain lids w/o the seal, or at least I used to. I store in glass with a real rubber stopper.

Great question as I bought a 12 pack a few days ago and when i fiiled almost all of them yesterday I started thinking about that, right now just the outer rings are on with a paper towel being held in to let em breath.

i have used mason jars since 07. i haven't had a problem. all that i keep are between 40 and 45%. some rum but mostly neutral. i believe that it would be most apparent in the neutral if it were leaching. but it never hurts to be safe. ps off subject. you really need to try the apple pie recipe. i made some last week. the only problem is it disappears quickly. lol.

"I made several gallons of the apple pie (Elricko's recipe) 2 years ago. It was a fantastic hit. The lads and ladies that didn't want to imbibe too much just ate the fruit. They were more bonked than those that just drank it.

Concerning mason jars. I have used them forever with no problems. Almost 5 years ago I found an old chestnutstump with 14 qt. mason jars full of what must have been 30 plus year old white. Everything was rusted except the inside. They were still sealed and full. Dang good stuff too."

What a find that was! Goo to hear about the mason jars so now I can buy more. Just made up a quart of the pie, 1 quart of plum and 1 quart with juniper to see if I can resemble some Tanquaray Gin.
