"Hello all :

OK is this the right way to use the PS2HC

Propane :

Get the wash to some what of a rolling boil attach The column stabilize the the column at 78.4 c with cooling water. collect distillate.

Toss the first 5oz and start collecting.

? do you ever touch the heat input . should the wash be in a full boil the whole time or a high simmer ????"

If you can stabilize the temp
78c then you aren't inputing too much heat. If you are running full water (cool) it it won't settle at 78c then you have to turn down the heat

BTW - attach the column before it boils, otherwise you are releasing ethanol vapors into the air

"Ok i need a little more help i am going through a tremendous amount of ice in pot still mode. I have run reflux also i am concentrating on corn now. I Propane A 1500w broil king (moded) with a router control verable dimmer If i stabilize the calom at 78 +/- i get no condensate with all cooling on I get up to 81 82 C and it is flowing like mad what gives Mind you this is a pro2 HC. If some one can give me a solid run down how they run theirs it would help big time .

Thanks"

I have been running my HC for over 2 years. I use propane so can conrol heat. I run my entire hearts run at 172-3°F. I control heat input and condensor water to maintain that. You have to maintain head temp. at your elevation temps. (mine is 4200'). Adjust water flow to maintain a constant temp. no greater than 167° for your hearts run. Maintained right, with insolated column, i get 195% ABV at a gallon/hour. Takes a shit load of cold water to do that. More for the condensor to handle it than reflux.

Lots of cool water needed. This unit runs double or tripple times as fast, so needs at least that much cooling water.

Well worth the cooling needs though."

So is it 172-3 or is it 167 for the hearts How on earth are you cooling this do you have a mountain stream cooling the condenser 1 gal an hour is something i cant get my mind around please put it in prospects for me 55gal drum worth of ice for ? how many ours of the run. Start to finish . Here is what i do I heat the kettle with propane to a rolling boil with column on then i transfer to 1500W PLATE . Start the condenser then bring on the cooling to the head stabilize at 78C and the drip drip drip begins . Super pure but forever in time how the hell are you getting 1 gal an hour please help me .

Are you using a digital thermometer or the glass one that came with the distiller? If you are using the glass one, it may not be acutate. Mine was reading 15 degrees too high so when I was controling my cooling at the proper temp, I was getting little or nothing from my condenser. You can check the thermometer by boiling water and taking the temprature, if it reads higher than 100C then you need to adjust for it.

"Yes, a digital is a must. One with an alarm.

now on to the question. The HC unit can handle great speed. Column needs to be insulated, boiling chips in boiler, column well packed, and packing around the cooling tubes.

Take off the foreshots, then take off the heads, hearts and tails in nubered jars of a pint or so each. Let them air for a day or so covered with a coffee filter or paper towel. Smell, taste and combine after a day or 3. Toss all rest into the faints jar for later use. Don't be cheap, make your cuts deep.

Hope you are doing stripping runs and then the spirit run?

To get the gallon/hour, you need lots of cooling water and adequate heat. Lots of reflux and enough cold water to handle the condensor.

Yes, I have spring water."

I will also verify the thermometer now. Do you have a preference on witch digital alarm is best Thanks

i use the one they sell here. i have the lower capacity ee2c so my cooling needs aren't the same. i use frozen 2lt bottles in an a 33gal garbage can with separate water pumps for my column and condensor. i am curious why you change from propane to a hot plate. you should get better heat control through propane i think. i have only used a 1100 watt plate. welcome to the hobby.

Thanks for the welcome. The only reason is switch is for safety . I use the propane to get the 30l up to temp quick then switch to the 1500w hot plate when i collect. I have yet to collect much below 180 proof the stuff is quite flammable . I do not have a shed or barn where i would have less worries.
