Well guys I ran my first run. I not sure if how I did but I got something out and is about 70 on my hydrometer guess that is 170 proof dosent tast that great I took a swig and "woohoo white lightin" very strong. I had a very hard time controlling the temp. The wind was blowing, Im not sure what was going on I checked my thermomiter in a glass of ice water it read 41 degrees ( I think it should have been around 32) that being said when the temp was at 175 degrees nothing was comming but at 185 to 190 it come out like I thought it should. I see the difference in the four shots, It had like oil on the top. my spirits has sort of a matalic tast kinda but not really hard to explane. I only ran off about a qt, I did not know if the fluctation in temp was ok or not. and was not sure how much I should expect from a 7 gal wash so that were I stoped, please send feed back on any thing yall can think of to help me with my next wash that should be in a day or two . thanks

Well, like a kid makeing his first ever step, or jumping on that bike the first time...... Part of the learning process.
Ok, first thing: put your thermometer in boiling water, compensate for altitude and if its digital adjust it to that temp.
If at all breezy, I put a 2' high roll of aluminum flashing around my burner about 25"" dia. Protects the flame and contains the heat. Second insulate top half of pot or keg, and the column up to the cooling tubes or even them if hoses aren't attached for a stripping run. For a stripping run, you really don't have to worry much about temp. It will run much higher than reflux. Main issue is not to overrun your condensor- can't cool it fast enough and you lose alch. as vapor.
LHow much to expect. Can't remember your wash, but lets assume it was 15%. For your 28qts of wash, that would figure to 4.2 qts. of pure alch. Now, you can't extract it all, and sure ain't gonna get pure, and a realistic strip run is about 50% running fast. With my high cap. unit I get around 58 to 60%. Plus. I quite when the output reaches around 25 to 30% as it starts to become cost inefficient. My average for a 25 qt. run would be around 6 qts actually collected. Yours should be a bit more.
I then pour it all into a 6.5 gal. glass carboy and add 2 heaping tbs of bakeing soda. I leave the top off for it to breath. Then continue with more stripping runs till the last when I would have enough for a full spirit run. That insulation and fire protection is even more important then.
Now, as your dad probably asked, when you took your first dive on that new bike ""Are we haveing fun yet?"",\."

You should have gotten about 1 gallon + out of it, some of it being heads and tails but you should have gotten about 2 quarts of decent stuff out of it. Let them air out for a week and you will be really able to tell the difference then with smelling them. The good stuff will almost not have a smell but the heads and tails will still stink. The best way to check your alchometer is to put it in boiling water and it should read 212*. 70 on your meter would most likely be 140 proof which is very low actually as i was getting 92% out of my PSII HC. What still are you using

What still are you using Its a reflux that I found on the internet, Its from how to build a world class still. beer keg with a 2' colum to a 2'x2'x2' T, thermometer at the top of T. xrosing to another 2'x2'x2' T, a 2' x 8' long nipple coil is inside open top end on top and caped on the bottom with two needle valves one goes back to colum the other to my collection jar. hope you can picture it. thanks.Bill"
