"Has anyone heard of ""Bar Keepers Friend"" .. Would this be a suitable alternative for Glasrens? I found some under the sink, sounds like it would work?  Container Reads: Cleanser and polisher with mild abrasives Removes Rust Use For: Stainless Steel, Fiberglass, Porcelain, Glass Cooktops, Copper, Tile,Brass, chrome, grout, plastic, ceramic, cookware, tea cups etc.. Contain no phosphates Contains Oxalic Acid Do not use on Gold, Silver, or lacquered surfaces"

Bar Keepers Friend is a great product for cleaning and polishing. Glasrens primary job is to kill any bugs (fungi, bacteria, etc) in your fermenter, lid, and everything else that will come in contact with your mash/wash. Never use soap to clean your equipment. I don't think I would recommend using Bar Keepers on anything my ferment is going to come in contact with. ...It is a great polish for the exterior of your still!

"I've been using regular dish soap and then using a product called final rinse. It's mainly used in the bar industry for the final rinse of drink glasses and kills any remaining bactiria and dries clean. I also add a table spoon to my cooling water that I keep in a large ice-chest. I've been using the same water all summer long and haven't had any alga or other creratures growing in it. The stuff is not cheap, about $24.00 a container but will last almost a year.

Thanks for the reply... I'll look into that, what about just a plain ole sanitizer? Or even bleach?

"I just use a good grade of dish detergent, very hot water, and a lot of good scrubbing. Thats for this hobby, and I have never had a problem. for wines though I do use glassrens. Mtnwalker2, Glad to hear you're using soap without any issues. Way back when...there was a thread about the dangers and problems of using soap. It may have been directed towards wines, etc... honestly don't remember. Good to know! Thanks for enlightenment. FlyboyTR:)
