"Hi all, I am a homebrewer with an interest in distilling. I living in Washington State, which recently passed craft distilling laws that make it possible for individuals to legally distill. I'm wondering if anyone has any info on these new laws and whether they could be used to distill for personal use. I've found some info on it at: http://liq.wa.gov/rules/Issue-P...2-craft-distilleries.pdfI'm not too interested in making spirits to sell at this time, although my interest may grow into that someday. I'm wondering if I could get this license and legally distill alcohol in my home for personal use. Any thoughts? Thanks for any input!"

That law appears to be written for small commercial distilleries, not home distilleries. You would still have to pay the licensing fees & liquor tax plus keep full records & expect the WSLCB to visit quite frequently. If you were not planning to sell liquor you would be a fool to apply for such licensing. Since the state is expecting tax revenue, you'd better be producing some or they are going to wonder why. Heck, even if you could get a license to home distill I wouldn't. It's none of their damn business.

"I also live in Washington State, and I have looked into the laws, and basically the rules are for commercial operations. The state has two types of licenses one requires you use in-state products and the other is more expenses but allows you to use whatever you want. The real issue for getting the license is clearing the fire codes and the federal steps. And it is a fun hobby although it is a lonely hobby, no one to talk to about it, but plenty of people to drink you hobby. Let me know if you have further question."
