"Please help me fill out my shopping list to get me started. I've been told that a simple sugar vodka is a good way to start. But I'll eventually want to use corn and wheat to make bourbon.

EE Pro series II
1500W Hotplate (I assume this is adjustable?)
Turbo Pure 24
Starter Kit Silver
750ml square liquor bottles and caps
Clearing Agent- Sparkolloid 4oz.

I've been thinking of aging the distillate with charred oak chips for a few months to mellow. But how do I know whether it's worthy of putting away for a couple months?

We have Brita filtered wellwater at our house.

TIA,

Dreamer"

Welcome Dreamer,

Hope you don't mind my recommendation here. I have both the ps II pro and the high capacity. I never use the ps II. Way too slow, and not nearly as clean. If you are serious about this hobby, and intend to further your abilities, I would really reccomend the bit more expense to get the HC unit.

Go for the digital thermometer instead of the regular hard to read liquid one. Call Rick at Brewhaus and ask that he make those changes.

You are going to make neutral for several runs before going to flavored. If you have a brewshop around get a 6.5 gal. glass carbouy. Get a package or 2 of the activated carbon. Put your first finished runs in that carbouy with some washed carbon for a week or more, and you will have a better drink than you can buy. Search back posts for secrets to makeing it better, or just ask. Cuts are most important."
