"Can someone tell me. A friend purchase one of the easy stills, he is concerned about his finished product haveing the Nasties such as Acetone and whatever. He ran Rum. Does this unit run pretty clean. He said he discarded the first couple of spoonfuls. Is this usually what needs to be discarded? He said after discarding the 2 spoons that bad smell diipated. He is afraid to sample any. Any thoughts or comments greatly appreciated. He is a newby. Thanks Jim"

Well, I heard that discarding the first 10ml is enough to get rid of the nasties. I'd say if he did 2 spoons full, and they weren't baby spoons, he's OK, and should put away his fears, and sit back, relax, and have a swig or two, or three, or... well, you get my drift. :-) Some, I've heard, put in some toasted oak chips into their product, and let it "age" a while... but that's another story. Tell him he's OK with what he has, and not to worry.

"Gary and Cooker.
Yes, it safe to drink. I am not familiar with the easy still and how it operates, but will gaurantee you that without some cuts, that rum is going to blow your socks off.
If possible to do with that unit, make a run, takeing 6 oz. at a time for the whole run. Let set overnight, then by taste and smell, compound the sweeter hearts together. Measure what was heads, hearts, then the tails volumes. He could then use that for the cuts for the next exact ferment. This should give him a decent product to drink or age to make better.
I'm just spitting in the wind here."
