"Hi all , New at all This, I have recently purchased a PsII Hc and was intrested in what a Parrot is and the purpose it serves.Also I use pot Still for making Rum and reflux for other recipes, would this device benifit me.

"A parrot is a vessel that catches and discharges distillate coming off of the business end of the still.
One floats their hydrometer within the resevoir of the parrot to get ""real time"" abv measurements during the course of a run. A typical parrot might contain a 200 ml sample volume.
often times these measurements can assist the stiller to understand what phase of the run will be forthcoming.
It is worth mentioning that measuring abv will not give the most accurate ""feel"" for when cuts should be made. Evaluating cuts is best left up to one's sence of smell,taste and pehaps feel. Hydros only measure ABV.
And ditch the flame in the spoon. Trust your taste buds.
Never the less, a parrot is a good tool to have."

Keep in mind that with a parrot you will get only an approximation of the current proof of the distillate, as there is constant blending and slight movement of the product that will affect your reading. Few distilleries use a parrot for this reason, and those that do have created a chart relating the proof shown on the reading from the parrot to an actual reading, for each given product and process.

Can Brewhaus make one for the EE II? I have the standard capacity model and would love a parrot as well made as the EE II is.

We have done this previously. The reason that we do not offer them as a regular item is due to accuracy issues with an inline systems.

My output goes into a Pyrex container & then I can either pour this into a test tube containing said hydrometer or into my collections jars. No parrot necessary - but it does look cool!

"I have a stainless parrot from the other supplier. it is well made but it can not be too accurate because of the amount of output it takes to float the hydrometer.
I like it as a reference but i just purchased a refractometer that is for alcohol only. Now the parrot needs a modification so i can get samples right at the spot where the hooch comes out of the still."

Ill just remove the parrot and as the alcohol comes out , i'll collect a few drops in a shot glass to use with the refractometer. problem solved hmmm why didnt i think of that??? lol lol"
