"So the other day i ran a dtripping run for the first time all seemed to go well i ran it hard and fast and managed to keep my condenser cool. I was running a corn ujssm 9# cracked corn 10# sugar 6 gallons of water and a whiskey yeast with ag. it worked off perfect in about 7 days and so i stripped it and collected about 2 gallons. I checked it the next morning and my proof was a lil under 100 should my proof not be higher than this or is this normal??

It all depends on how long and how much yo collect during the stripping run. I collect down to 30%abv during my stripping runs.

On my 5th run on usjm and runnin at about 80% takin down to 40% seems to have a good taste no burn takin backset appx 3 gallons for next wash with about 3ls new cracked corn to 7 lbs sugar finish with RO water to 25l. Damn stuff is good !!! Can't wait till 7 th run !!!

Some have said, it really doesn'r reach perfection till the 6th run. Thats when the real sour mash with bacteria kicks in. There are ways to start the bacteria early. The old timers used to do it. Its hit or miss, but when it hits its good to go. Sour mash the first run."

"Shine, thats about what I get. Pretty good yield actually. the 3"" column for the pot still collects a much stronger brew. perchance did you use a thermometer to test temp. of you distillate and use correction chart to compensate? Can make a diff. I also like to strip to at least 20%. Bland tastless. well almost.
Enjoying some bastard mix of leftovers Oats, Wheat germ, and corn. combined and aged on oak for over a year now. Fantastic."

Well if that sounds normal than i guess im good. I Just collected until it started to pretty much drip rediculously slow and i then stopped now slow like in a spirit run slow but much worse. I did take a temp reading and since it was left out in the shed overnight it was a bit cold the next morn about 45 F to be exact and the reading on the alcoholometer was a lil under 100 pr bout 94 id say. This run was the first ferment with no backset should i set it aside and not use it with the rest of the proceeding runs? Or is it ok to collect another 4 gallon and put all of it back in my still and run a spirit run with the sourmash strips and the initial ferment that i just stripped?? Hope that made since!!

EEk! Hold on. Not sure you want to add baking soda to a grain or flavered strip. Some one else jump in hear if I'm wrong. Works great for neutral, but not sure about grain or flavored drinks. Want to know myself."

I have not needed to add anything especially baking soda! Just let the natural flavor work!

14% or below. Stay away from the turbos and you will never need carbon, baking soda, clearing agents.....................and so forth and so on."
