"Dilute to 40% or less.

Safer (kaboom) and will offer a cleaner spirit.

After you collect, let your collection jars air out over night. That will smooth out the nose.

Will you be making cuts (I hope so)?"

"Happy to.

""Cuts"" is a way to separate or identify transition of alcohol content during the course of a run.

Fores (very first bit of distillate to discharge from your business end)- POISON. DO NOT DRINK. do not drink the first 150 to 200 ml per 20 to 25 liter charge of your boiler.

Heads- This is where lots of hang overs live. From my stilll I typically collect 600 ml per 20 liter charge. I do not drink any part of this. But some Gents will add late heads for flavor. Heads have a kind of fruity smell and can confuse a noobie into thinking this is good .Consume at your own risk.

Hearts- as the name implies, this is what we are all after. The cream of the crop. Hearts have the most nuetural smell and taste. hearts are the cleanest

Tails- Tails are the back side of the run. Early tails is often used for flavor also. I love early tails. Tails smell a bit like card board and progress to moldy cardboard or wet dog or ass or old shoe as alcohol levels are depleted within the run.

Collect your distillate in small jars so you can later find these transitions by smell and taste.

Start with your center jar and work your way out to either side of center.
Keep your good likker to enjoy and rerun (not fores) the rest another day."
