"Hi everyone,
I'm totally new to distilling. Don't even have a still.
I have no chemistry background. I'm no DIY welder-type.
I want to make whiskey and rum.
What do I ""lose"" if I go with an EasyStill over, say, the PSII HC? (Other than having to spend a lot more time doing runs and waiting)?

Nothing wrong with the easystill but just remember that you might get addicted to distilling and wind up buying a PSII HC a few months later. That's what happened to me. Luckly a buddy bought my easystill from me but at a lower cost than what I paid for it.

Steve Hi Steve. If I were only going to do whiskey and rum, and perhaps later brandies, I would order the pot distiller column. However, I would contact Brewhause and order it with the larger condensor like the HC unit has. That would be imperative for me. On the other hand, you may want to make some neutrals and add essences. In which case I really recommend the HC unit, which can do both. Like tikisteve said, best not to limit yourself at the start. One day, you may want to do all the different potentials. Top notch quality, every step. The HC unit was on sale the other day. Go for that if you can."

I don't really want to spend 13 hours distilling a batch. Sounds like the HC is the way to go. Guess I'll just need to spend more time saving up!

I ended up getting the keg kit. Its very nice to do one batch or so a month. The easystill is a good starter set but you'll move on.
