"I haven't seen this posted in a long while. When doing any run, I fill a large pot with a few inches of water and set my collection jar in that. I have had the collection tube flop out of the jar several times- wind, dogs tail whatever.
With this you have a safety valve. Diluted spirits in the pan instead of evaporating explosive fumes."

Great point - Safety first. You don't want to be explaining what started the fire to the authorities.

Also, as diligent and careful as I try to be, my collection jar will sometimes overfill and overflow. The tall pot of water will catch the overflow, and if its really windy, i will wrap the collection tube with a piece of cloth and use a clothes pin to attach to the pot. That effectively stops the tube from comeing out of the jar and wasting the good stuff.

One could take the overflow & toss it in with the heads & tails for a future run.
