"I am going to build a reflux still.. for academic interest onlyWink
After reading and studying the www, I am left with a few questions which are probably basic, but nonetheless outside my understanding.
I have read that the best way to generate good product is to distill pure (95%) ethyl, the add water and ""essences"" to yield the desired product.
I have also read about mashes from grain, molasses etc etc to yield a acceptable and unique flavor profile.
Would I be correct in assuming that somewhat like home winemaking, you can either buy the kit, or you can stomp your own grapes. Depends on your desire.
Both yielding good product???
Carbon filtering???..... Usefull with a reflux still??? Usefull when generating pure ethyl for mixing with essences???
When generating sugar/yeast ethyl... does the yeast matter when using a reflux?? I assume there will be no taste after distilling with the reflux.
Any guidance and conrtuctive comments are MOST welcome.

Yeast does not seem to matter as much. Shy away from the turbos though. In reflux mode you will have a sweet aftertaste with a sugar wash. There are various ways to rid yourself of this. I have used corn flakes with some success & the next batch will be with bran. Basically it's just play with it until you get what you like. A super clean neutral will require a wash made from something other than sugar.
