"Hello,

Well, I have the second hydrometer testing column (glass) break in 2 weeks. They seem to be very fragile.

I assume the plastic ones are no good for testing ABV with the distilled spirit?

What have others found to be a better substitute than the common, fragile glass ones?

Thanks in advance,

Steve"

"I'm on my third also. I now place it in an old plastic blender that I took the blades out of and that help stabalize and protect it.

There are better laboratory flasks that are almost unbreakable.
Many say the plastic will get milky and impossible to read the scale."

My first one broke just because I touched the top of it to some object a bit too hard. My last one broke because I accidentally let the hydrometer drop a bit too quickly and it blew out the bottom!

I usually keep a few extra on hand and away from possible damage.
