I am looking for a 1500 watt rheostat for my immersion heater.

Can someone provide a source and cost?
Thanks, Newguy

hey there, i was looking for something similar not too long ago. i was looking for 2000 watts, though. if you go to watlow, i believe the site is watlow.com and send them a request, they will help you. for me it was easier to get 2, 1000 watt rheostats. but i was doing something entirely different and ditched the idea and went to something else. if you give me a little more info on what you're trying to do i could help more. i know from my readings of immersion heaters that 750 watts, i read, was safe. so that nothing was 'scorched'. you can easily achieve this by getting a 3000 watt, 220 volt, hot water heater element and applying 120 volts to it instead. i sure hope this helps.

Has anyone tried using a reostat from a discarded electric stove, I would think one from the oven would be plenty wattage wise.

i dont think electric stoves use a rheostat. im not sure though. i believe that the dial is a thermostat and is just a go no go item. all on or all off.

"I think the controlls for the stove top elements are reostats, but the oven may not be.
Then again I could be wrong my self."

I went on ebay & got a router controller. It works fine with my 1500W HC2. It is an on, off, variable controller. I use on for stripping runs & variable win conjunction with the water flow on my spirit runs.

Here's an update - you don't need one. Ran the system today in full reflux. I added 6 extra copper cleaning pads, packed around the reflux cooling tubes. I never needed to bring the heater off of full bore. Water control handled everything w/o a problem. 98 here today & I have a 40 gal horse tank with about 25 gal in it. I am running 2 pumps, one for the condenser and the other for reflux. The control valve is on the output side of the reflux. Before I had to modulate the heat somewhat, but the extra copper packing around the cooling tubes seems to have done the trick. Temp stayed right on 78 & never moved until I got through the hearts & shut off the reflux to pull deep tails.
