Hi guys just to start my name is Jeremy and I am a first time distiller. I have been making beer and wine for years and am going to start distilling. I am using a simple 2 gallon pressure cooker pot still, I have made my first cut and am about to run my 2nd cut, I know you are to dilute the alcohol to 40 percent. My question is can I use anything to dilute? Like maybe fruit juice, water, wine, just woundering.

Welcome Jeremy,

Yes, you can use any of those. Your hydrometer won't give an accurate reading, but just use dilution charts or calculators. If useing wine, compensate for the alchohol in that as well.

Love brandies and mixed brandies."

"Hi Jeramy.

This was my first lil rig and I had a blast with it.

Getting a good brandy may be tough with a lil rig as their can be lots of heads produced by fruit washes. And smaller rigs are tough to make cuts with.

Some of my potstillin friends would say that you should try to land (still) a barrel strenth abv with brandy so that you don't have to dilute. In other words you want a 65% (maybe lower) right out the business end of a nice slow single run(with brandies). Flavors can be very delicate and twice run may strip too much away.

Keep your wash abv down so you don't create too many nasties. I am told that champaign yeast is very good to use.

Get some time under your belt then tell us how to do it.
Good luck Jeramy"
